Should Manhunt 2 be banned?

The Manhunt 2 video game was banned in the UK due to excessive gratuitous violence.

According to this article at Manhunt 2 banned:

The BBFC's verdict of the game is damning: "Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing," the organisation said today.

"There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these killings are committed, and encouraged, in the game," it added, and highlighted "the game's unrelenting focus on stalking and brutal slaying and the sheer lack of alternative pleasures on offer to the gamer".

Should designers of video games be more responsible in the kind of video games they are creating and what effect it may have on people?
Should the govt step in and ban some games or should the marketplace decides what games are acceptable and let consumers vote with their pocket?
What do you guys think>?
Should Manhunt2 be banned???

I am NOT fan of sadistic video games!!! It is ok to kill monsters, machines or bad guys, but killing for the sake of killing, I don't think video games should promote that.

It has no effect on people ! I think that there writes that only people of 18+ years old should play it ! And I think that people 18+ years old already know that this is only a game and they are not at all influenced ! So ... don't even try to ban this very good game !

It is no different to GTA games - you can go round a kill who you will and even run away from the Police!

So no I don't think it should be banned otherewise you'd have to ban loads of games for similar acts.

If Manhunt 2 has all the violence that I've been told it has, then by all means, don't play it.

What Rockstar games does with it's time and energy is its choice., it is not my place to tell Rockstar Games what to do with their technology, so if the game is violent, don't play it, the government doesn't need to interfere in matters that isn't theres!

What Rockstar does is it's business, not mine as I won't make it so.

And if games are allowed to be banned, will books be banned next?

If it got that far, what would a book be banned for? How about murder, cheating on your spouse, sex, slavery, genocide?????

Lets start with the Bible and go from there.
