I would not call it a gaming console, it has the function t play games on it but it is not its primary function, most game consoles primary function is to run games, whilst the pc's is not, there you have it

To me it is as I have done most of my gaming for the past year on a PC but I understand if people feel differently about it. It really all depends on who you are asking becasue me I only really use my desktop for gaming so to me it is a console.

Considering that next-gen game consoles can perform a number of functions these days, including surfing the internet, the PC could well be considered a "gaming console". Some people buy PC's for that main purpose, and there are PC's that are specially set-up for playing games. PC's geared towards games are usually the more expensive ones and make use of the latest technology.

Pc's arent bloody Game Consoles. They werent made just for games , Heck they probably didnt even know they could play games on the first windows installtion.

Sorry guys but i think your wrong.
Sure ps1 and 2 can play music and dvd but there still made specially for games unlike pc and mac.

it depends on whether or not ur PC is a gaming rig

if u built or bought ur PC strictly for gaming .. then yes its a console
if u use ur PC for work and other stuff .. then no

I think the main reason the PS, Xbox and Wii are called gaming consoles it's able to be hooked up in the living room and be played right on your TV and has the USB cabel to where you can download games from the internet. You could do the same thing with a computer but it is much more fun with the console.

But we still call the PS II a Gaming consloe. strange things happen.
And after their E3 conference, MS has numerous possibilities with the 360 now so the real question would be, should consoles be considered pc's? Or will they all just eventually be called multimedia devices?

It a nutshell? No. The computer was invented to make calculations at first. Then it got into the home. The last thing on the inventors minds was making the P.C for gaming.

I'm going with what the others are saying. PCs are much more powerful than consoles and can do many more things. But I kind of think PCs are a type of console because you can play games on it. Good topic to think about!
