what makes me really cross
So one way or another I'm going to buy an Intel Mac pretty soon. I really want to buy it today but all good sense dictates that I wait to see what Big Steve says tomorrow.
Most of the reason I'm shelling out a whole chunk'o'change is for gaming performance. The only software I use to make money is Microsoft Word, which will run on pretty much anything.
So, just to distract myself from the burning desire to buy a computer RIGHT NOW I took a look at what nice Windows-flavour games I might be able to run under BootCamp.
I found myself on Amazon (UK) looking at the wide variety of PC shooters available. It's not so much that Wintellers have got so much more choice than us, I've become used to that over fifteen years of Mac ownership, it's that the games are so incredibly cheap!
Half life 2, for example, is still a pretty hot game & Amazon are knocking it out for £10. Quake 4, which is still pretty much a current game for Mac users, is £10 too. For comparison, Halo (Mac) is still holding at its original retail of just under £40.
Economies of scale? Or is it just that Mac users are so starved of good content that they'll still buy a four-year old game because they have so few other choices.
The piracy argument isn't really relevant because there are at least as many software thefts on the PC platform, probably more.
Ahh, it's no big deal.
It just bothers me, that's all..
If we had more options we'd buy more games and then we'd get more options and then
