Default Damn, I left my Wii on over night!

Yesterday, I turned on my Wii to browse some YouTube videos (using Opera Web Browser) and I eventually changed the TV channel for a second to watch some basketball. Well, I forgot to turn off my Wii, until I noticed today the green light was still on! My Wii was left on for almost 17 hours. I have my Wii sitting on my table horizontally and the bottom/end middle of it was a little hot when I noticed it was still on. I also had my Super Smash Bros. Brawl disc in the Wii the whole time. Could have I weakened the laser? Once I noticed my Wii was still on, I closed out of the browser, went back to the menu, and turned it off regularly.

I'm worried now if I shortened the lifespan of my Wii? It seems to be still working well, but I'm really upset how stupid I was to leave it on like that. Sometimes I wish the Wii had a sleep mode or something that tells it to turn off after sitting idle for so many hours.

I doubt that it was damaged since you've only left it on that long once. Otherwise, they wouldn't be worth the money. I think the biggest concern with leaving a console on for a long time is not console damage but fire hazard. However, the Wii shouldn't have a problem with causing a fire. I'd think that Nintendo would already have thought of people accidentally leaving their systems on. It was the original XBox that had a problem with fire hazards, but that was fixed with using a different kind of power plug.

Ok. I was worried I was shortening the lifespan of the device, and not so much about it being a fire hazard.
Anyway, it still plays fine.

Yeah, I doubt it will cause any damage. The Wii is actually designed to remained plugged in and powered all the time. The built in WiiConnect 24 thing is meant to keep the Wii going all the time.

I'm sure it won't do any damage. My nephew plays my Wii when he comes over, and he'll often forget to turn it off. And since I'm usually at work when he's here, it stays on until I get home. Hasn't done damage yet. The only thing that does happen, is that the Wii freezes when someone tries to play Guitar Hero 3 on Wi-Fi.
