I don't think it is a good deal.
You can get a brand new Dell (including a flat screen) for around this amount.
For example, a few days ago, Dell had a deal on the PC below + 19" Flat screen for $399:

* Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core E2160 (1.80GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, 800FSB)
* Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition
* Microsoft Works 8. Does NOT Include MS Word
* Dell 19 inch Widescreen E198WFP Analog Flat Panel Monitor
* 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz - 2DIMMs
* Single Drive: 16X DVD+/-RW Drive
* 160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™
* Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3100
* No Floppy Drive
* No Modem Option
* Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

I don't know if this deal is still valid. Might want to check it out.

I have to agree that it's not such a good deal, but mainly because you're thinking of replacing the hard drive, ram, and video card. It's not all that bad of a deal IMO, even though there's no monitor, but those replacement parts will add a good bit to you overall cost.

not a great deal. offer him 200. 2 more gigs of ram would be useless. windows xp x32 only will detect 3.5 gigs at the most. you need a 64bit oprating system and it'll detect up to 16TB.

Just make sure when your buying to make sure you get a cpu and a video card around the same level so you don't bottleneck your computer by having a high range and a low range.

That was a great deal. Too bad it's no longer available.

That is not a bad computer at all if you are going to be checking emails and writing papers but for gaming you are going to want a better processor and more disk space.
