I'd recommend a Mac. They're very stable and fast, regardless of what everyone else has been saying.

Err come on man if you want us to really help you let us know a little more, like where you are located. What kind to buy will depend on what you need it for. If you are only a web surfer and do the general email or word docu then I doubt u'll need some cutting edge $5000 machine right Then again if you are a serious PC gamer you will be definitely looking to spend some big bucks on your machine. Shop around, compare prices, take your time and dont rush it. You'll find that after a little bit of looking you may be able to save some $$$ no matter where you may live.

A Mac for gaming? strange suggestion.

I'll always only build my own computer but if you dont have the skills then I suggest an Alienware. After being bought by dell their prices have dropped making them very affordable gaming machines.

Be sure to get a good graphics card as they are the single most important component for gaming. I currently recommend at least a ATI 1950PRO 256MB

I agree, your best bet would be to build it yourself. It's quite hard to determine what would be best for you because of not knowing what you really need it for though.
