Anybody know any good free desktop screen capture software?

I tried snag it but the outputted avi file was WAY to big, I need something that can shoot out quality footage and spit out a small file. Anyone know of any good free software for screen capture?

Well what game are you going to be playing that you need this software becasue if you are playing on the steam network it has one that is built in for free that works excellent.
